M8D-1 was raced in the 1970 Can Am where Denny won the Championship This is the first of two cars run by him that year. This car was wrecked by Denny at Road Atlanta and replaced with M8D-4.

This is the car that Bruce McLaren had his accident. The car was destroyed in the crash and thrown away.
BMMR M8D-3
This car started as the M8A spare tub and M8B-1. It was used to evaluate the M8D design. After Bruce's accident there was less than two weeks before the first race to get a new car ready. This car was finished as a "D" and it ran the full season with Gurney and Gethin driving. It was run in the 1971 season by Herb Kaplan. It was converted to "F" specs by Max Kelly at McLaren Engines for Kaplan.

BMMR M8D-4 (Trojan M8E tub)
It was M8E prototype car rebuilt to M8D specification for Hulme late 1970. Crashed by Dean in 1971. Rebuilt in USA with all the usable parts from the original car and a new M8E tub (80-10). Raced by Dean, Woods, and Overhauser until the end of the original Can Am. It is listed separately since original tub (M8E/1) was later repaired and built into another car with parts from Trojan.
